Orlando Hammertoe Treatment

Diagnosing and Treating Hammertoes in Orlando

Orlando Hammertoe Treatment

Orlando Hammertoe Treatment

The diagnosis and treatment of hammertoes is best put in the hands of our qualified, experienced foot doctor. Frequently accompanied by pain, hammertoes can make it difficult or even impossible to walk or even put on your shoes, let alone engage in other activities. Turn to us for our Orlando hammertoe treatment and the relief that it provides.

When the middle joint of one of your toes bends or curls and becomes stuck in that position, that is what is known as hammertoe. Why does it happen? It’s the result of excessive pressure on the tendons and joints of that toe. This may be due to arthritis, a genetic predisposition, or simply because your shoes are too tight, which is the most common reason. And that is why women get hammertoes more often than men do. Women more typically wear high heel shoes, which put stress on the toes. Our hammertoe treatment will depend on which of two types you have: there are ones that are flexible, and others that are rigid. With flexible hammertoe, there is some movement still available to the toe, however minimal. Rigid ones, however, have no flexibility to them. Our hammertoe treatment for those that are flexible is generally to use an orthotic (shoe insert) combined with a switch to roomier shoes. Medication may be needed to manage inflammation, swelling, or severe pain. When you have a rigid hammertoe, or one that is flexible but unresponsive to the methods listed above, surgery will be necessary. Fortunately, it is done at our office, with no hospital stay required.

What is of the greatest importance to keep in mind is that you should not ignore a hammertoe, especially if you are in severe pain. Contact our office right now and let us schedule you for an examination and evaluation so that the applicable treatment.

Heel pain is one of the most common reasons why people come in to see our foot doctor at Laser Foot Surgery Specialists. At our Orlando podiatry office, our doctor, Dr. Richard M. Cowin, provides treatment for heel pain including EPAT treatment.

Heel pain can be caused by many different reasons, including inflammation of the tissues that connect the heel to the toes. Sometimes an athlete will develop heel pain from repeatedly running and jumping on hard surfaces. Other times, a person may develop heel pain by being overweight, or because they have an abnormal walking gait. At our office we can use EPAT treatment to treat heel pain. EPAT stands for Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Treatment. In this treatment, shockwaves are used to treat chronic proximal plantar fasciitis. This condition commonly causes pain in the heel, and is sometimes referred to as a heel spur. This is a noninvasive treatment that is generally used when other treatments, such as physical therapy, or the use of custom orthotics, proved to be unsuccessful. This innovative treatment has a proven success rate; this treatment usually requires a short amount of time, and patients can immediately walk, and return to normal activities just a few days after the procedure. Usually three treatments are needed for beneficial results. Sometimes patients report immediate pain relief, however, in most cases, pain relief will begin four weeks after the first treatment has taken place. Over 80% of patients who have been treated with this procedure are either pain-free or have had significant heel pain reduction. The EPAT treatment at our Orlando podiatry office is FDA approved, and clinical studies have shown it to be completely safe and effective. Treatment usually takes about 15 minutes per foot with 3 to 4 treatment sessions needed at weekly intervals for complete treatment.

To learn whether or not EPAT heel pain treatment is right for you, simply contact our Orlando podiatry office for an appointment to see our foot doctor, Dr. Cowin.

If you’re suffering from one of several common foot problems, and non-invasive methods for treating it are not effective, or at least are insufficient to provide the level of outcome that you were hoping for, we at Laser Foot Surgery Specialist don’t want you to become frustrated. You have options, and our Orlando foot surgeon can offer them to you.

In many instances, concerns like hammertoes, bunions, and heel pain, among others, can be remedied with a combination of orthotics (shoe inserts), and lifestyle adjustments. Fungal infections may respond to topical or oral medication. Foot surgery is not the first option, but could be the best one. There are two categories of procedures that our Orlando foot surgeon may recommend. One is the minimally-invasive type, in which only a small incision is required, with even smaller instruments to take care of the issue. You will find it to be more comfortable, with quicker healing. Only a one-stitch suture s usually required. And it costs less. In addition to the previously named conditions, calluses, soft corns, thick toenails, ingrown toenails, and Morton’s Neuroma are others that can be addressed properly with it. And with laser surgery, fungal nails, ingrown toenails, warts, neuromas, and porokeratosis are among the foot difficulties that can be taken care of. Our Orlando foot surgeon can assure you that laser procedures tend to be less painful and is most certainly more precise, so that surrounding tissue is not affected. And there is no radiation to be worried about.

So, why put up with annoying, frustrating, and health-threatening foot conditions that can make it difficult or even impossible for you to live your life to the fullest? Help is here. And it’s never been easier to get it. All you have to do it call our office and arrange an appointment for a consultation and exam to find out if this is the right option for you.
